Youth In Action 2019 – Registration Opens

sign up for youth in action!

Youth in Action 2019 has two main opportunities to serve this year:

  1. The Comfort House in McAllen – a nonprofit ministry providing end-of-life care to people no matter “their age, race, ethnicity, religion, social status, or ability to pay, taking care of loved ones as if they are their own.”
Youth will help with outdoor painting and lawn work at the home.
  2. Emily’s Meals, A Helping hand – an ecumenical homeless ministry that prepares and delivers around 50 meals a day to people living without shelter in McAllen.
Youth will help sort and organize donated food in their warehouse.

Sign up your youth and sponsors today and help our diocese spread the love of Christ, reaching out in His name to serve the larger community hosting our annual Diocesan Council. More details and links to register are at

shoe_14589p.s. De-cluttering your closet this month? Bring your unused shoes to Youth In Action to donate! For the month of February, the youth group at St. John’s, McAllen (our hosts for Youth In Action 2019) is collecting gently used footwear. Shoes collected will be given to micro-enterprise start ups in developing countries; the youth group will be rewarded by the pound for shoes they collect with funds to put toward other youth group mission projects, camp scholarships, and a Confirmation retreat.

Youth Commissioning

The Rt. Rev. Jennifer Brooke-Davidson, bishop suffragan, commissioned the “missioners,” all the youth gathered at Diocesan Council for the ninth year of Youth in Action. The youth began their weekend at St. Mark’s, San Marcos, on Friday, February 23, and were sent out with prayers and blessings on Saturday to assist two Head Start daycare programs in San Marcos.

They will be working mostly outdoors, cleaning up playgrounds, tree trimming, raking, and fixing up sand boxes for the children. They will also build five “free little libraries” to be installed around each campus.

YIA Hopping to Council

YIA frogAfter inviting everyone to Youth In Action at each Pre-Council meeting, the Youth In Action planning team wants to “bug” you one more time about this unique opportunity for the youth of your church. This unique event is “hoppening” February 19 – 21, 2016. Online registration is still open through the Youth In Action page, and costs $35.

Youth In Action invites young people to participate in the life of our diocese in a tangible and important way. The fun starts on Friday night (02/19) at 7:00 PM as youth arrive at St. John’s Episcopal Church in McAllen. On Saturday morning, the group will be commissioned at Council 2016, then go out into McAllen for a day spent volunteering with local ministries and missions. After a full weekend, Youth in Action ends after Sunday morning church service at St. John’s.

Churches provides chaperons for their youth who are available the entire weekend (cannot be participating in Council). Each adult sponsor must have completed the Safeguarding God’s Children course in the last five years and have his or her own vehicle for transporting students. [Ratio, 5:1]

After registering, please complete the appropriate forms and send to Laura Kean, the Camps & Conferences Administrator, by email ( or by fax (210-824-2164), before 1:00 PM on Monday, February 8.

If you have further questions about this event, visit the Council 2016 website, reply to this email, or contact Meredith Rogers ( We “hop” to see you in McAllen soon. Youth In Action 2016 is going to “toadally” rock!

Council Online Registration Opens

Registration is open for all attendee categories, and information pages can be found under the “Signup” section.

Our registration process will be very similar to last year with three (3) primary registration forms plus two (2) for the Youth in Action event:

  • Individual Registration for Visitors ($35) and Volunteers

For the seventh year Youth in Action returns with a call to serve at their event beginning Friday Feb 19 and concluding with Worship at St. John’s McAllen Sunday morning February 21, 2016.  Like Diocesan Council, this event has become a time of reunion, renewal, and youth business.  That business is to join us and say YES to a weekend of service.  See full details and links to the Youth and Sponsor registration forms on the Youth page.

Find the registration links on the Registration page along with help files and payment information.  Use the Navigation bar on the left side of Council website  ( for the many events and activities during our time gathered as a diocesan family.

Youth Band and Choir at Worship

Youth throughout the diocese are invited to join Diocesan Council, visiting bishops, and guests at the Council Eucharist on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in San Marcos.  The Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, the Most Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori, will be among the participants at Diocesan Council and the Council Eucharist.

YIA-2015_bandA Youth Band & Choir is forming to participate in the worship service. If you are interested in participating in the youth band and choir, please email your full name, phone number, and the instrument you play (if applicable) to Meredith Rogers at

Both Bishops Lillibridge and Reed have actively supported youth and young adult ministries for years, and it will bring additional joy to have a significant youth presence in worship.  For full details visit the Youth in Action at Worship page.

Registration is Open Online

Online registration for Council 2015 to be held February 26 – 28 at the Embassy Suites and Convention Center in San Marcos is now available.  And this year the church with bragging rights of “first to register” goes to St. Andrew’s, Brackettville, followed closely by St. Matthew’s, Kenedy.  Registration will close on Friday, February 13, 2015.

Our registration process will be very similar to last year with three (3) registration forms:

NOTE: No Youth in Action registration this year.  Because Council Eucharist has moved to Saturday morning to allow all in the diocese to celebrate as Bishop Reed is formally recognized as Bishop Coadjutor, there will not be a traditional Youth in Action event in 2015.  However, diocesan youth are invited to participate in the celebratory service beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday.  For more information visit the Youth in Action at Worship page and the Worship (Saturday) page.

Mission Project:

In the Diocese of West Texas relationships with local chapters of Habitat for Humanity are numerous and in this 6th year of Youth In Action, we offer “A Day in Partnership with Habitat for Humanity”. The work for the day will be varied but will range from working on landscaping, clearing property, construction, and assisting at the ReStore. Habitat for Humanity is very excited to have us as a partner for the weekend and we are excited to offer them lots of willing hands and feet! As always we have some great fun planned, it’s a perfect weekend to get back in touch with your DWTX friends and we hope you will join us for the weekend. Space is limited this year so register soon! (We will have to travel to the sites and therefore transportation is required for all registrants with adults in vehicles with seat belts. Community service hours will be certified for those who need them as well.)
