Council hotel rooms wait list

It’s definitely time to finalize your hotel room needs for Diocesan Council, February 22-24, in San Marcos.

If you currently have rooms at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center – the site of Council – you need to call and correct the reservation to the name of the person who will be checking in.  To do so:

  • Call (512) 392-6450, select option #2 for reservations, then select “existing reservations” option #2 again, follow any additional prompts and wait for the specialist to answer. You will need the confirmation number and current reservation name (most likely the name of your church).

If you have extra rooms at the Embassy to return, please allow the diocesan office to re-assign those rooms. We have a current wait list for 24 rooms. Email the following information to Leigh Saunders at :

  • Church
  • Name on reservation
  • Arrival and departure dates
  • Number of rooms
  • Bed types

Consider giving your unneeded rooms back, so others may enjoy the San Marcos hotel and Council site “combo.”

Dinners will be served

Not only are various luncheons offered at Diocesan Council, returning again will be the Mission Congregations Dinner on Thursday, February 22, and the Council Banquet on Friday, February 23 (this year with the opportunity to reserve tables to support a good cause!).

The Mission Congregations Dinner is hosted by Holy Spirit, San Antonio, and will be held at the Rocky River Grille which is located inside the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in San Marcos, which means after Council Eucharist, you don’t have to drive anywhere to eat! The evening of fellowship and good food features a fajitas (chicken and beef) dinner with all the fixin’s, plus chef’s surprise dessert, all scheduled to begin around 7:30 p.m.

Although this Council event is billed for mission congregations only, we extend an invitation to smaller delegations that would like to share an evening in community with food and conversation.

Pre-registration and $25 payment are required and available through the “Church” or “Individual” online registration forms available on the Council Registration page.  See you there!

The annual Council Banquet on Friday evening begins with a reception at 6:15 p.m. and the seated dinner at 7:00. There will be several cash bars (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) available, so bring those “greenbacks” as no credit cards accepted.

This year’s Banquet will focus on the opportunity for fellowship and reunion and will not feature entertainment other than friendly conversation with your fellow diocesan members and Council attendees.

And bonus! New this year, for a $200 donation to the Council Hurricane Harvey Relief effort, your church can reserve a table for 10 at the banquet. Even better you can request a center-of-the-action table or edge-of-room table for a quick exit.  And best of all, your group can arrive at a leisurely pace, knowing you have a seat for everyone.  Don’t have 10 friends?  That’s OK, find another church or invite a stranger! Click here to signup and pay.

It just wouldn’t be Council at the Embassy if we didn’t close our evening with a short Compline service in the Atrium about 8:45 p.m.

The cost of the Banquet is included for Clergy, Delegates, Alternates and Clergy Spouses. Registered visitors to Council (at $35) and registered exhibitors (cost of booth) may purchase banquet tickets for $40 each.

Council Luncheons

Because all good things come with food, you have two opportunities to enjoy a delicious lunch in the presence of ministry before Diocesan Council begins on Thursday, February 22. Both the Commission for Women’s Ministry and the Department of Christian Education will host gatherings beginning at 11:15 a.m.

The Commission for Women’s Ministries (C4WM) invites all to attend their “Most Honored Woman” luncheon to celebrate the women nominated by their home churches as a “most honored woman.” See the brochure for full details.

If you are among the nominated “honored women,” the meal is free of charge. For visitors, the cost is $25, and you can mark your attendance during your Council registration. The luncheon will be held in Veramendi Salons C&D at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in San Marcos.

Join us in celebrating the women chosen by their church as someone who exemplifies the ‘Joy of Christ” in all they do!

The Christian Education Department will once again host their popular “working” lunch, on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 11:15 a.m.

Priests, staff, and volunteers of Adult, Children, Youth and Family Ministries are invited to come meet, share and learn over lunch with passionate Christian Educators in the diocesan family.

This year the focus is on Formation Across the Lifespan with an emphasis on Adult Formation. Adults are the primary educators of youth and children, so let’s ensure they have the tools to teach and model what it means to be a disciple of Christ. New and exciting online resources for all ages will also be shared.

The cost is $25, and you can mark your attendance during your Council registration. The luncheon will be held in San Marcos River Room, also at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in San Marcos.

The Bishops’ Luncheon on Friday, February 23, will welcome guest speaker The Rev. Canon E. Mark Stevenson, Director of Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM). The luncheon will be held at 12:00 p.m. in Veramendi Salons A-E. The luncheon is included with clergy, clergy spouses, alternates, and delegates’ registration, or is available for $30 per ticket for visitors.

As director of EMM, Stevenson leads a dedicated team in executing a national program of refugee resettlement and related ministries in partnership with the U.S. government, affiliated local resettlement programs, and a developing network of communities and ecumenical organizations across the country.  Learn more on the Speaker page.
