Update from the Standing Committee

The Standing Committee would like to share with you an update on the process adopted for electing a Bishop Coadjutor for our Diocese. To date (7.17.14), five persons have been submitted to be potential nominees.  As a reminder, names of potential nominees are being received until July 31. Names for potential nominees may be submitted by any 2014 Diocesan Council Delegate/Alternate or member of the clergy of West Texas. On this site, you can find the Diocesan Profile and other forms:

The Standing Committee encourages and seeks your nominations. We approach this process, not as a secular election with people “running for office,” but rather prayerfully seeking a slate of devoted servant leaders who offer their name to the Holy Spirit for consideration as our next bishop.

Thank you for your prayerful attention to this important time in the life of our Diocesan family. In your prayers for this election process, please remember that from a theological and spiritual perspective, potential nominees are simply being asked to be open to the work of the Holy Spirit in this election through the nomination and election process. Those persons who allow their names to be placed in potential nomination by the July 31 deadline have an important role in our collective discernment of what the Spirit is bringing forward for our Diocesan family.

Finally, the Standing Committee encourages you and your congregation to offer the following prayer daily, and especially each Sunday morning, between now and the election.

PRAYER FOR THE ELECTION OF A BISHOP COADJUTOR

Almighty God, giver of every good gift, you have given us a life-giving fellowship in the Diocese of West Texas. Rekindle our hearts with the love of Christ Jesus that we might continue to build upon the legacy left by those who have tended this Diocese and led with Godly courage. Look graciously upon us and upon your whole Church, and guide the minds of those who shall discern the one you are calling to be a bishop for our Diocese, that we may receive a faithful shepherd, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Faithfully yours in Christ,
The Standing Committee of West Texas
