The Rev. Dr. Jane Patterson, co-director of The Work+Shop and faculty member of the Seminary of the Southwest, serves as one of two missioners for Christian formation, along with the Rev. Dr. John Lewis, co-director of The Work+Shop. Together Patterson and Lewis lead weekly reflection groups on daily life. Also, Patterson and Lewis have developed the annual Bible studies for the diocese, based on the annual themes.
Bishop Lillibridge asked Patterson and Lewis to help facilitate a new Adult Christian Formation Initiative for the diocese in 2014. After research and preparation, what has developed is the first study entitled, “Following Jesus: Invitation to Discipleship.”
Launching on Monday, Feb. 24, the study provides material for six days of every week for eight weeks. Content includes prayers, meditations, reflections, and Scripture readings. Also, a weekly interview with a diocesan member will be available, focusing on the models of discipleship.
You can use the daily reflections individually or as a group or parish committee. Marjorie George, editor of Reflections magazine, who also conducted the discipleship interviews, developed a dedicated blog for the “Following Jesus” study.
To access “Following Jesus” go to http://followingjesus-dwtx.org. The study is divided into weeks, 1-8, and each week contains the daily materials. Week 3 is ready for site visitors to get used to the format, as well as the interview with Drew Cauthorn on the model of neighbor. Cauthorn built a park on the south side of San Antonio to bring that community together.
